How to install clockwork mod cyanogen recovery.img on Samsung galaxy s3 via ODIN software?

Hello, I've downloaded latest cyanogenmod nightly firmware for my Samsung Galaxy s3. Along with the software, I've also downloaded the recovery file. Unfortunately, it's a '.img' file. I tried to install this file through ODIN but it's not working. I think ODIN needs only '.tar' files to get installed in download mode of the device. Need a little help.

I think it was .tar but you have opened it from WinRAR or winzip like software and It gets extracted.

don't worry use WinRAR to make it .tar and flash via odin

Winrar or winzip won't extract this recovery.img file.

you get me wrong
I was talking about not extracting .img but I was talking about extracting .tar image which can be extracted and after extraction you will find .img file

Ok, follow these steps:

1: Download Caboomi img to tar.md5 converter (Windows) from here:

2: extract the downloaded file to a folder.

3: place your any_XXX_recovery.img file inside the same folder. And rename it as "recovery.img".

4: Now, open "runme.bat' file from the folder.

5: You will find a new file created by the name - recovery.tar.md5 inside the folder.

Now you can flash this file to your phone by using ODIN.

Very simple - download your .img recovery with filename "recovery.img", then add as tar archive "recovery.tar" and flash via odin. This is 100% working and the most simple answer that will help you :)
